Our Technical Director, Neil Walker and Google Search expert, Simon Guest took to the stage today in an exclusive breakfast event hosted by Sedulo in Manchester. 10 Ways to Win With Digital in 2017 focused on the ever evolving digital landscape and how businesses can take their digital marketing to the next level in the new year.

Simon kickstarted the event by going into detail about the evolution of marketing, how it began with billboards and posters, and the dramatic increase in digital and mobile use for businesses today.

He considered how we utilise our social media platforms to reach consumers on any device and across mindsets on Search, YouTube and Gmail. Simon also shared a few interesting facts – did you know that smartphones receive 150 touchpoints a day?

Simon’s insight focused on micro-moments and how intent, content and immediacy are vital for succeeding in the digital industry. Telling a story to your consumers is key when it comes to marketing. What do you want to say about your company? What do you want people to know about you?

Once you have identified someone as a potential customer, you can put these thoughts into action.

Simon ended his presentation by stressing that building awareness, influencing consideration and driving sales is a great recipe for success.

Neil was up next and his talk highlighted the importance of mobile. Again he presented intriguing facts such as people now spend 2-3 hours online everyday with their smartphone – 45 minutes more than on their laptops. This could be due to a number of things including our ability to make online purchases across multiple devices.

One idea Neil touched on is that SEO friendly does not mean you have an SEO strategy. Brands need to research their audience, group keywords into pages and each website page has to focus on navigation in order to obtain and retain customers.

Neil ended his presentation by stating that mobile should be responsive and we should concentrate on engagement rate and varying content in order to see results.

Neil had this to say following the event:

‘Thanks to Sedulo for hosting Win With Digital today. I felt it was an intimate atmosphere and I’m grateful for the turnout given the harsh weather conditions. It was really nice to see people engaging with the content on their digital devices and on social media and I hope everyone took away some invaluable information for the new year.’
