How To Host An Office Olympics

The sporting calendar is packed full with events and festivities all throughout the year, but every once in awhile we’re treated to something truly special… The Olympics!

As the athletes and spectators prep themselves for the moment of a lifetime, we wanted to put our own spin on this great sporting event that you can do from your very own office.

From paper plane javelin to rubbish shot put, below you will find all the information (including a set of handy instructions) to help you host an Office Olympics.

CHAIR ROWING

You will need: 

  • 4x office chairs with wheels
  • 4x participants per team
  • 2x teams per round
  • 1x office with enough space

Instructions:

  • Participants must organise themselves into teams of four and arrange themselves on the same number of office chairs in a row (front to back)
  • All players must be facing the same way and place their hands on the back rest of the chair in front of them
  • They must then race over a determined distance, with the winner being the first to cross their “boat” over the line
  • Teams will be disqualified if their hands leave their team mate’s back rest or their posterior leaves the seat.

RUBBISH SHOT PUT

You will need:

  • 1x plastic office bin
  • 2x competitors
  • A4 paper (scrunched) x 6

Instructions: 

  • Competitors must stand an equal distance away from a rubbish bin (7 steps)
  • Using balls of (A4) paper scrunched up by an independent scruncher, they have three chances to throw their balls in the bin
  • The winner is the person that either has the most balls in the bin or lands the closest shot (taken from the final resting place).

PAPER PLANE JAVELIN

You will need: 

  • 1x A4 paper crafted into a paper plane of their choosing (Maximum one minute crafting time)

Instructions:

  • 1x throw per competitor to throw their plane as far as they can
  • The winner is the person that created the farthest flying plane.

TABLE TENNIS

You will need: 

  • An office table
  • A ping pong ball
  • 2 A5 pads of paper
  • Plastic cups (to use as a net)

Instructions: 

  • A match is played best 3 of 5 games (or 4/7 or 5/9). For each game, the first player to reach 11 points wins that game, however a game must be won by at least a two point margin
  • A point is scored after each ball is put into play (not just when the server wins the point as in volleyball)
  • The edges of the table are part of the legal table surface, but not the sides.

NERF GUN SHOOTING

You will need: 

  • 1x standard issue one-handed nerf gun (6 shots)
  • 6x targets (varying in difficulty and distance)

Instructions: 

  • Head-to-head style competition (2 challengers per event)
  • Points are given on the following areas:
    • Time completed
    • Targets hit
    • Points scored per target.
