On April 18th, we welcomed our latest Junior Search Executive, Tom Dutson. Below he talks about his first week with us and what he has learnt so far.
If you were wondering how we came up with the title of this post, take a look below…
The past couple of weeks have been a bit of a blur. So much has happened in such a short space of time and I’m just getting my head around it all.
Last week I was at a recruitment event run by The Juice Academy called “Bootcamp”, with the chance of landing a spot at a real, grown-up company doing grown-up stuff. I remember being sat with 26 other people, trying to make friends and wondering how the day was going to unfold.
The day flew by and before I knew it I was sat in a room with a very excitable woman called Sara. I was pleased to hear she had chosen me AND it was with the company I had picked as my favourite when I applied – what more could I ask for?
I was nervous to start work on Monday, but once I arrived my nerves disappeared. I was introduced to everyone straight away and then sat down with the Directors from each department while they told me about their job role and what goes on within their team. It was really nice to see people genuinely enthusiastic about the work they do and it made me eager to get stuck in myself.
It seemed like I’d started at the perfect time, as I was thrown straight into link building and attended an AdWords training session in my first week. This was really useful as it gave me a good head start and a more profound insight into my job role. I’ve already been told I will start learning about coding soon with the Web Design & Development team, so I’m really looking forward to doing a bit of everything.
Starting any new job is nerve-wracking, but the whole team are really nice and helpful. The vibe in the office is chilled but equally, everyone is working hard – you can really tell that each team love what they do. I’ve just heard someone say that metal is going to be a genre on an upcoming Playlist Friday, so I think I’m going to like it here.
I’m excited to get to know everyone in more depth, start some good friendships and learn the ins and outs of the industry. I really couldn’t be happier that I’m beginning my career at OVG.
