It’s always an exciting time when we welcome new people to the OVG team, and this week is a double celebration as we introduce Martin Vernon and Mark Armstrong to our Web Design & Development department.
I first joined OVG at the end of May this year as a freelance Web Developer and by August I was pleased to be offered a permanent position as Senior Web Developer.
I had the usual nerves and apprehension you get when you start a new job but I found it really easy to settle in seeing as I’d already gotten to know everyone. It’s a really fun and relaxed atmosphere – with plenty of office banter – but everyone’s so professional with what they do that it makes for a great work hard, play hard balance.
My workload has been quite extensive since day one but this has really helped to improve my key skills so I’ve been more than happy to get stuck in. Being thrown in at the deep end has allowed me to develop in my role and I am constantly learning more about my department and what is expected of me which is a massive advantage.
One thing I like about working at OVG is how everyone blends so well together. I’ve never met a bunch of people who work so effectively as a team and this kind of dynamic has definitely made it easier for me to cement myself into my department. It’s also really handy to have Martin on our team as Development Director in case I have any queries or concerns. I feel secure in the knowledge that he is my go-to person should I need any assistance.
Having so much to learn so early on in your role can be quite overwhelming but I have embraced the challenge and I’m proud of what I have achieved in such a short amount of time. I am able to have a laugh with the team but I am also in a fantastic learning environment that is great for my career progression – what more could you ask for?
I have history with Paul and Justin, the OVG Directors, so rejoining the team as Development Director at the beginning of October has been really exciting. It’s nice to see some old faces like Technical Director, Neil Walker and Si Taylor, our Creative Director as it makes me feel like a part of the furniture already.`
In my first week I was involved in a speed dating session with the team where each member told me a bit about themselves in 25 seconds. It was a lot to take in at first but it was a great ice breaker and everyone’s enthusiasm definitely made me feel at ease. It’s always a little daunting being new, even if you’ve been here before, because the team have grown in so many ways since I was last here.`
The Web Design & Development team in particular have come on leaps and bounds and I was really impressed when I had a look at some of their past projects. I feel lucky to be part of a team that is constantly evolving and I am looking forward to refining the procedures and processes that will drive OVG’s Web Development department into a more competitive place within the Manchester business community.`
I would like to thank everyone for welcoming me with open arms and I’m excited to see what’s next for OVG!
