On Tuesday 12th July, we attended the big finale for The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity after being shortlisted as one of four finalists (hurray). We put on our best outfits and made our way to The Midland Hotel where we pitched an idea to none other than Dragons’ Den mogul Theo Paphitis.

The event was held in aid of RMCH’s Helipad Appeal, which will be the first hospital in Central Manchester to have a helicopter landing site. As a result, this will enable RMCH to quickly and efficiently transport more patients to the hospital so they have the opportunity to receive high quality treatment.

In order to win, we pitched Theo and the other three judges our idea which was to hire out the six OVG Directors through a range of services. These included a dance masterclass, an office hula party and we even offered up our MD, Justin Yates to be a chauffeur for the day (we don’t do things by halves here).

We were joined by milkshake makers, Archies who launched two very tasty charity shakes (we even got to sample them ourselves), eCommerce website designers, Space48 and their fundraising festival and finally, Headhunter and winner of the evening, Gary Chaplin who raised a staggering £9,000+ for cycling the distance of Mount Everest.

The evening began with a complimentary drink and a chance to mingle with the other finalists and their supporters. We had our photograph taken with Theo himself and although we didn’t win, we were really happy to be a part of such an amazing cause. All in all, we couldn’t be prouder of Team OVG and we can’t wait to take on the challenge again next year.

Here’s what our team had to say about the event:

Leah: I had a great time at the Many Hands finale. All the RMCH staff were so welcoming and it was lovely as always to see all their faces. The presentations were really well presented and I was so impressed by all the finalists’ efforts in raising and exceeding the target of £1000. We had so much fun with #HireHelp4Humphrey, I can’t wait now for the buzz around the office during our next big fundraising efforts – Big Charity Drive!

Olwen: The finale was a fantastic event that we were delighted to be shortlisted for. We were up against some seriously fierce competition and it was inspiring to see how much effort had gone into fundraising for such an important and worthwhile cause. We’ve already started thinking of ideas for next year!

Suze: The Many Hands finale was a fab evening! I was really pleased I got to attend and meet so many amazing people – along with Theo from Dragons’ Den (couldn’t resist getting a picture). It really hit home just how important the Helipad Appeal is and I am so proud of the OVG family for coming together and really embracing the challenge.

Sam: What a night! It was certainly a new experience to pitch to a ‘Dragon’ and the other three judges in a room full of other professionals and plenty of cameras. I loved seeing the various pitches from Space48, Archie’s and Gary Chaplin – there were some really innovative (and tasty) ideas which just goes to show what can be achieved when everyone pulls together for a great cause. I’m thrilled Team OVG were shortlisted for Many Hands, and although we didn’t win I’m super proud of all the effort that went into it.
