OVG have had another great year this year. 2016 was filled with exciting new projects and events. We created a spoof website, were nominated for awards, hired new staff, attended events and threw a fabulous hen do. Really, we couldn’t have packed more into our year!

Let’s look back at 2016 and reminisce over a few of our most memorable highlights:

Westeros Recruitment

Our biggest success this year was the spoof website we created for Time Recruitment. A unique piece of shareable content, Westeros Recruitment offered up pretend jobs based on Game of Thrones characters who have recently… er… vacated their role. The site was incredibly popular and gained an estimated coverage of 1.16m views and 78,900 social shares. The site was even covered on news sites including Marie Claire, New York Daily News and Grazia (France).

New Staff

2016 has seen an influx of new talent to the OVG office including: Sam one of our account managers, our videographer Joe, Tom (the llama) for links, Hannah has joined the content team, Mark, Lewis and Tom have joined the development team and Martin has joined as Development Director.

Sara Got Hitched

That’s right, our favourite Accounts Director, Sara, got married and so in true OVG style, we threw her a fabulous hen party. The night was filled with party games, a great buffet provided by the team at Troff, celebratory drinks and even masks of Sara’s face that certainly went down well. We certainly know how to throw a celebration.

World Book Day

If there’s an excuse to get dressed up and donate our favourite books then of course we are going to take it. This year, Red Riding Hood took the prize for best dressed – we’ll let the pictures in our blog do the talking…

As we are all digeratis and techies, we were invited to Thinking Digital Manchester. This conference is home to innovative thinkers from all areas of the tech industry and we were certainly inspired. Hannah was so inspired that her blog earned her an invite to Thinking Digital Women in Newcastle on the Emerging Talent Fund. She had a great time learning about the ways that women are entering and changing the tech industry and that Newcastle is an impossible city to navigate.

Many Hands: Hire Help for Humphrey

The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is close to our hearts at OVG and as Paul is an ambassador for the charity, we pulled out all the stops for their Many Hands appeal. Our big idea was to auction off our Directors to raise money for the charity and we were shortlisted as one of four finalists for the best fundraising idea.

Theo Paphitis himself was judging the competition and, though we lost out to Gary Chaplin who cycled the distance of Mount Everest (!!!) , we are very proud of our achievement. We can’t wait to find out what next year’s challenge will be!

Manchester Business Predictions

20 of the most influential business leaders contributed to our business predictions report this year to look to the future of our favourite city – Manchester. The aim of the guide was to highlight and encourage business growth in Manchester and looking at the predictions we received, the future is certainly going to be bright.

The City Of Manchester Business Awards, or COMBAs, is an annual gala dinner hosted by Downtown in Business. We were proud to be nominated for Best Creative and Digital Business but we were over the moon when Accounts Director, Sara won Female Networker of the Year. We created a filter for the Game of Thrones themed occasion and spent a happy night taking selfies with our fellow nominees.

Office Olympics

The Olympics this year were incredible and Team GB did an amazing job. But could our favourite cyclists and hockey players manage an Office Olympics? We know that chair rowing, rubbish shot put and the paper plane javelin are harder to perfect than they look. So we filmed a series of shorts to bring the Olympics to your office. Seriously, you should try these…

10 Ways to Win With Digital in 2017

In November, we held our own exclusive breakfast event at Sedulo, Manchester featuring our Technical Director, Neil Walker, and Google Search Expert, Simon Guest. Both speakers aimed to shed a little light on SEO and digital marketing trends for 2017. The event was a great success with guests enjoying bacon sandwiches with their teas and coffees. The room was packed and we had a second audience watching via our Facebook Live stream. We’ll have to start planning another one soon!

With 2016 being such a successful year for everyone at Online Ventures Group, we can’t wait to see what 2017 will bring. Next year we will be up to all sorts of new things.

Here’s a sneak peak at a couple of our upcoming projects…

About Hannah Field

Hannah is a passionate fan of modernist literature and can usually be found curled up with a cat and a book, a steaming mug of tea within reach. Though she tolerates living on land, Hannah feels most at home underwater SCUBA diving, hoping to see turtles.
