I think it’s safe to say there were ripples of shock across the globe this morning as it became apparent that Donald Trump was to be America’s 45th  president.

I, and I’m sure many of you, woke up to the news courtesy of Twitter, so we asked Visibrain to help us create this infographic on how Twitter users reacted to the result of the 2016 US election. There was (unsurprisingly) a LOT of data to get through, so here are just some of the highlights:

USA voting rights have changed a lot over the last 240 years. In such a huge country, with so many different laws in different states, managing the electoral system has always been a challenge, particularly to ensure equal opportunities for everyone.

This time-line gives a brief glimpse of the highlights and lowlights of the voting rights of American citizens, from 1776 right up to 2016.
